Present Caviar in the Finest Style! The Finer Points of Caviar Service Caviar should be kept as cold as possible. At 28-30 degrees an unopened jar or tin can stay fresh for many weeks. Once opened, caviar should be consumed within two days. To serve, remove caviar from refrigerator and let stand unopened for 10 to 15 minutes. Caviar should be opened immediately prior to consumption, and can be served directly from its container or spooned into glass dishes over ice in silver serving dishes keeping it fresh and chilled. Some claim that metal utensils, which may ozidize and impart a metallic taste, should never be used for serving caviar. On purely aesthetic grounds, however, we find that mother of pearl serving ware significantly enhances your caviar experience, creating an aura of elegance a good caviar deserves. Caviar is traditionally served with buttered toast or unsalted crackers along with ice cold vodka, a chilled glass of champagne or a Chardonnay wine. Blinis are also a tasty and attractive alternative to toast. Just warm them in the oven and serve them with a dollop of creme fraiche to add a cool and creamy texture. Whatever your choice, keep in mind that caviar should never be served with anything that might overwhelm its delicate flavor and texture.
